Presentation of the VICINITY GR Pilot Site Value Added Service results in the “19th IEEE International Conference on BioInformatics and BioEngineering (BIBE 2019)”

Wednesday, October 30, 2019 (All day)
Athens, Greece

In the context of the 19th IEEE International Conference on BioInformatics and BioEngineering (BIBE 2019), Information Technologies Institute of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas and the University of Edinburgh co-organized  Intelligent Digital Health Interventions towards Prevention, Self-Management and Treatment of Pathologies (DIGHI 2019) Special Session.

BIBE is the first leading Conference of its kind in IEEE/Internationally, inspiring others to follow its path.  The conference covered  several aspects of bioinformatics and bioengineering, such as Big Data Analytics, Bioengineering Applications for people with disabilities and the elderly and Machine learning and deep analytics for Biocomputing.

More specifically, DIGH’sI Special Session aim, was to bring together researchers from academia, industry, government, and medical centres in order to present the state of the art and discuss the latest advances in the area of the application of digital health technology. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Mobile and pervasive computing
  • Machine learning (retrospective studies or real-time machine learning approaches)
  • Real-life digital health/biomedical interventions
  • Decision support systems
  • Knowledge discovery in intelligent health systems
  • Natural language processing
  • Electronic Health Records
  • Security of health information
  • Medical devices, smart biosensors and sensor networks
  • Internet of Things
  • Digital health within smart homes or smart cities
  • Augmented or virtual reality applications
  • Usability and patient satisfaction
  • Health/biomedical education
  • Digital health technologies designed specifically for children or elders
  • Bio-engineering applications for people with chronic diseases

On behalf of CERTH/ITI, Maria Koutli presented the work that was performed in the context of Pilea-Hortiatis GR, VICINITY Pilot Site, concerning “Abnormal Behaviour Detection for elderly people living alone leveraging IoT sensors” by Maria Koutli, Natalia Theologou, Athanasios Tryferidis, Dimitrios Tzovaras (CERTH/ITI, Greece);
